Ports of call included Marseilles, Port Said, Djibouti, Colombo, Penang, Singapore, Saigon, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Kobe. As World War II hostilities opened, ''Aramis'' began conversion to an armed merchant cruiser on 4 September 1939 at Saigon.
